On Giving Tuesday, 29th November 2022, our Athenian family came together to celebrate with us the official release of our film, ‘The Invincible Summer‘ created by Evan Maragkoudakis and THE SKATEROOM’s Oisín Tammas. The film interrogates themes of migration, struggle and hope, putting the reality of Free Movement Skateboarding and its young participants front and center. Its backdrop: the economic and refugee crises still prevalent in Greece’s capital.

Along with some dear partners, Color Skates and Onassis Stegi, we started the evening at Romantso with a skate session of our participants who skated their way into everyone’s hearts.

The evening continued with a fabulous women’s skate jam, where the girls really showed who rules the world! Apart from the crispy flips, grinds, slides and quarter-pipe tricks, it was beautiful to see the girls coming together and helping each other when one was struggling to get a trick. By the end of the jam, they had all won some cash and prizes for their tricks, thanks to Color Skates.

After the showcase of the women’s skills, it was time for the men to show what they had! Once again, they outdid themselves and prepared the grounds for the screening of our film.

The lights dimmed and the stunning Free Movement Skateboarding team filled the big screen, discussing the trials and tribulations of running a social skateboarding project in Athens.

The night ended with some music from Fade Radio‘s Dennis Green and Theodore Selekos.  Massive thank you to everyone who came to celebrate, skate and party with us, as well as to Romantso, Onassis Stegi, The Skateroom, and Color Skates for making this happen.
